Verizon and AST SpaceMobile have announced that they have entered into a partnership to provide supplemental coverage from space with a $100 million commitment from Verizon. As part of this partnership, AST SpaceMobile will provide direct-to-cellular satellite service to Verizon customers in areas where Verizon is not able to provide service. To provide this service, AST SpaceMobile will use Verizon’s 850 MHz spectrum. Verizon’s news comes on the heels of AT&T’s recent announcement of its own “definitive commercial agreement” with AST SpaceMobile through 2030 to provide direct-to-cellular service for AT&T customers using AST SpaceMobile’s satellites.
