The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (the Bureau) has issued reports with the results of nationwide tests of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) conducted on August 11, 2021, in coordination with the FCC.

The EAS report indicates that the EAS nationwide test was largely effective as the vast majority of EAS participants reported receipt and retransmission of the test.  The Bureau also emphasizes potential areas for EAS architecture improvement and provides recommended actions that EAS Participants can take to improve the reliability of the EAS.

The WEA report reveals that WEA is generally reliable; however, the Bureau recommends actions that would continue to make WEA more effective.
