The FCC has authorized more federal rural broadband funding from the Connect America Fund (CAF) Phase II auction (Auction 903) as well as Phase 3 of the New NY Broadband Program, which included federal CAF support. For Auction 903, the FCC authorized over $121 million to 17 carriers committed to extending high-speed broadband to over 36,000 locations in 16 states. For the New NY Broadband Program, the FCC awarded nearly $16.2 million to three carriers over the next decade to expand broadband to over 8,000 rural New York locations. As the FCC starts wrapping up funding through CAF Phase II, it will start looking to implement the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) for which a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was adopted earlier this month.
