In an Order, the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC or Commission) Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (WTB or Bureau) granted CTIA’s petition to waive the clearinghouse notification obligations of Advanced Wireless Service (AWS) licensees. The Bureau asserts that because there are no longer any clearinghouses, AWS licensees are unable to comply with the Commission’s rules, sections 27.1170 and 27.1186, and thus should be granted a waiver. Moreover, the Bureau determined that clearinghouses have become infeasible economically and thus the notification obligations of AWS licensees are no longer necessary to satisfy FCC objectives.
