The FCC’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau has issued a Public Notice seeking comment on a proposal to repurpose the 1675-1680 MHz band, currently used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for time-sensitive satellite data, for shared use between incumbent federal operations and non-federal fixed and mobile operations, on a co-primary basis.  The FCC had previously adopted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in 2019 seeking comment on this proposal.  Since that time, reports have been filed by NOAA and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration that have concluded that it is technically feasible for NOAA to share the 1675-1680 MHz band with commercial wireless services, subject to certain conditions.
