The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC or Commission) Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau (CGB or Bureau), in a Public Notice, seeks comment on how to best facilitate communications between Tribes and eligible telecommunications carriers (ETCs) in furthering deployment of broadband on Tribal lands. The Bureau and Commission have received feedback from both Tribes and ETCs, whom have both struggled to successfully coordinate their efforts. To solve these issues, practical guidance measures have been recommended, including: (1) having decision-makers on both sides in discussions; (2) ensuring good documentation; and (3) outlining actions that both parties can take in preparation of engagement. The Commission hopes that these measures, along with other recommendations by stakeholders, can bring more effective communications to this effort.
