The FCC has adopted a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking proposing to improve Wireless Emergency Alerts for consumers by making them available in multiple languages, adding increased functionality, and ensuring wireless providers send alerts in a reliable manner.  Specifically, among other proposals, the FCC proposes to require wireless providers to ensure that mobile devices can translate alerts into the 13 most commonly spoken languages in the U.S., enable alert originators to send thumbnail-sized images in WEA alerts, and enable alert originators to send WEA alerts without the attention signal.
