The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC or Commission) Wireline Competition Bureau (Bureau) has issued a Public Notice reevaluating STIR/SHAKEN implementation extensions as required by the Pallone-Thune Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act. The Bureau found no reason to change existing extensions for small voice service providers, voice service providers unable to obtain the “token” necessary to participate in STIR/SHAKEN, and services scheduled for discontinuance under Section 214 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended. Earlier this month, the FCC shortened the extension for non-facilities-based small voice service providers and small voice service providers found by the Commission’s Enforcement Bureau to be the source of illegal robocalls.
