FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has announced that the FCC’s recently established Council on National Security is leading an investigation into the ongoing U.S. operations of CCP-aligned businesses whose equipment or services have been placed on the Covered List.  The FCC’s news release states that despite being placed on the Covered List, some of these entities may still be operating in the U.S.  To assess these entities’ current operations, the Commission has sent Letters of Inquiry and at least one subpoena to the “CCP-aligned” entities named on the Covered List in order to determine actions necessary to further safeguard U.S. networks.

The Covered List entities targeted by this investigation are: Huawei Technologies Company, ZTE Corporation, Hytera Communications Corporation, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Company, Dahua Technology Company, China Mobile International USA Inc., China Telecom (Americas) Corp., Pacifica Networks Corp./ComNet (USA) LLC, and China Unicom (Americas) Operations Ltd.
