The FCC has issued its Seventeenth Report to Congress as required by the Open-Market
Reorganization for the Betterment of International Telecommunications Act (ORBIT Act). The Orbit Act requires the FCC to annually report to Congress on progress achieved in promoting a fully competitive market for satellite communications services and in privatizing the intergovernmental organizations INTELSAT and Inmarsat. The Seventeenth Report concludes that INTELSAT and Inmarsat have successfully transitioned from intergovernmental organizations to fully privatized entities and continue to operate in a manner that furthers the goals of the ORBIT Act.
