The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC or Commission) Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau has issued a Public Notice providing guidance to Commercial Mobile Radio Service (CMRS) providers on their certifications of compliance with E911 location accuracy benchmarks, which are due June 2, 2017. CMRS providers must certify their compliance with the initial indoor location accuracy benchmark which goes into effect April 3, 2017. Specifically, they must certify that they are providing dispatchable location or x/y location information within 50 meters for 40 percent of all wireless 911 calls. The Public Notice provides guidance on the substance of the certification as well as details on who must certify and when to seek a rule waiver.
