FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel has announced that a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking has been circulated among the other FCC Commissioners to propose rules allowing the Commission to proceed with a reauction of AWS-3 spectrum pursuant to the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act. The proceeds from this reauction of spectrum will offset the $3.08 billion that the FCC intends to borrow from the U.S. Treasury to fully fund the FCC’s Secure and Trusted Networks Act Reimbursement Program. The AWS-3 spectrum to be reauctioned is the spectrum that DISH and its affiliated entities won during Auction 97 but later defaulted on due to a bidding credit issue.
