FCC Chairwoman Rosenworcel has informed Congressional authorizers and appropriators that on February 8, 2024, the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), the nation’s largest broadband affordability program, will no longer accept new enrollments. To emphasize the impact of not appropriating additional funding for the ACP, the Chairwoman shared enrollment data for every state, territory, and Congressional district. Barring additional congressional appropriations, 23 million rural, suburban, and urban households will be at risk of losing affordable high-speed internet. ACP funding is currently expected to last through April with only partial support available in May 2024. A bipartisan group of Senators and Representatives has introduced the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act, which would provide an additional $7 billion for the ACP.
