The FCC has adopted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to create a voluntary cybersecurity labeling program that would provide consumers with more clear and accessible information on the security of an internet of things device or product.  Qualifying products would bear a trusted, government-backed symbol demonstrating that the product complies with IoT cybersecurity standards.  Among other issues, the FCC seeks comment on the eligible devices and products for the program and the adoption of NIST’s recommended IoT criteria for the basis of the labeling program.

Comments on the NPRM will be due 30 days after Federal Register publication of the NPRM and reply comments will be due 45 days after Federal Register publication.
