The FCC has adopted a Report and Order requiring internet service providers to display, at the point of sale, labels that disclose certain information about broadband prices, introductory rates, data allowances, and broadband speeds.  The adopted rules also mandate that labels be displayed in a manner to ensure that consumers can easily compare a provider’s services with others.

The Commission also adopted a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to seek comment on further steps it can take to assist consumers in making informed decisions in purchasing broadband services.  Specifically, the FNPRM seeks comment on issues related to accessibility and languages, performance characteristics, cybersecurity, comprehensive pricing information, and whether ISPs should report label information to the FCC.
