FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has announced the establishment of a new Council for National Security within the FCC. The Council will have the following goals: (1) reduce American technology and telecommunications sectors’ trade and supply chain dependencies on foreign adversaries; (2) mitigate America’s vulnerabilities to cyberattacks, espionage, and surveillance by foreign adversaries; and (3) ensure the U.S. wins strategic competitions with China, such as for 5G, 6G, and AI.
The Council will be led by Chairman Carr’s National Security Counsel, Adam Chan. The Council will also be comprised of representatives from eight Bureaus and Offices within the FCC and will facilitate the Chairman’s national security agenda.
