With the Affordable Broadband Act going into effect in New York State, AT&T as of January 15, 2025 has opted to stop providing its fixed wireless 5G Internet Air Service in New York instead of complying with the law. The new law requires Internet service providers in New York to offer low-income residents access to monthly broadband rates of 25 Mbps for $15, or 200 Mbps for $20. Though various broadband lobby groups challenged the law, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up the case and allowed the New York broadband law to take effect.
