The Commission has released a Public Notice providing guidance to originating service providers on implementing NG911 capabilities on their networks as the rules requiring such providers to deliver 911 calls to NG 911 systems become effective November 25, 2024.
Rules concerning the requirements for challenging the validity of a Phase I or Phase II request and the criteria for modifying NG911 requirements by mutual agreement will not be effective until review and approval by the Office of Management and Budget is received, which has not yet occurred. Nonetheless, the FCC encourages OSPs to take voluntary efforts to further the transition to NG911 in the interim. Upon OMB approval, notice will be provided via the Federal Register, compliance dates will be set for NG911 implementation, and 911 authorities will be able to access the OMB-approved form to submit Phase 1 and Phase 2 requests.
