The FCC has activated the Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) and Mandatory Disaster Response Initiative (MDRI) obligations in certain areas of Florida in light of the incoming Hurricane Milton. For DIRS, reports are requested at 9:00 am EST on October 10, 2024 and every day at 9:00 am EST thereafter until DIRS is deactivated. For MDRI, facilities-based mobile wireless providers that serve the affected areas in Florida will be individually notified that MDRI has been activated in that area. MDRI obligations for mobile wireless providers include providing roaming to other facilities-based mobile wireless providers under disaster arrangements, where technically feasible. The FCC will issue a subsequent Public Notice when the MDRI has been deactivated.
