Shentel Settles FCC Investigation into 911 Outage

The FCC has announced a settlement agreement with Shenandoah Telecommunications Company to resolve an investigation into whether Shentel had failed to deliver 911 calls during a April 2022 911 outage.  The FCC’s rules require interconnected VoIP service providers to transmit all 911 calls to 911 call centers.  During the outage, which spanned over four West Virginia counties, Shentel customers who dialed 911 experienced one-way audio and could not be heard by 911 operators.  In settling the matter, Shentel will implement a compliance plan and pay a $227,200 civil penalty.
