The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Enforcement Bureau is requesting letters of intent from entities interested in becoming robocall traceback consortia. Robocalls are unlawful prerecorded or artificial voice message calls which often must be “traced back” to determine their origin to enforce laws prohibiting their transmission.
The Pallone-Thune Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act requires the FCC to establish a process for the registration of a single consortium that conducts private-led efforts to trace back the origin of suspected unlawful robocalls.
Letters of intent must demonstrate that applicants satisfy TRACED Act’s requirements and are due May 20, 2022. The FCC also invites comment on these letters of intent and has set a comment date of June 3, 2022, and a reply comment date of June 10, 2022.
