The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau is seeking comment on a Petition for Rulemaking filed by the National Association of State 911 Administrators (NASNA). Among other things, the Petition asks the FCC to initiate a proceeding to establish FCC authority over originating service providers’ delivery of 911 services through IP-based emergency services networks (ESInets), generally make the cost of compliance the responsibility of OSPs, and establish an NG911 cost demarcation point(s) for allocating costs when the parties cannot agree. Comments on the Petition are due January 19, 2022, and reply comments are due February 3.
