Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) have reintroduced the Broadband Parity Act, which would instruct the FCC to work with other federal agencies, including the Department of Agriculture and Department of Housing and Urban Development, in order to establish a baseline service level that broadband providers must deliver to consumers to collect federal broadband support.
The minimum baseline service threshold would ensure that the FCC can support a broad range of services, including telework, telehealth, and virtual learning services. If the bill is enacted, requirements would not apply retroactively to projects that began before the legislation is adopted, or to awards that have already been made under a Federal broadband support program.
