The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau has issued consent decrees to AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.  The ensuing settlements require each carrier to provide wireless 911 caller z-axis (vertical) location information to 911 call centers within seven days nationwide (wherever each carrier is able to deliver z-axis information); implement a compliance plan including specific testing, reporting, and public interest conditions; and pay a $100,000 settlement amount.

In April 2021, the FCC began an investigation into those three carriers’ compliance with the Commission’s 911 vertical location rules, which require nationwide Commercial Mobile Radio Service (CMRS) providers to deploy dispatchable location or z-axis technology in each of the top 25 cellular market areas by April 3, 2021, and certify to deployment by June 2, 2021.
