The Biden Administration has released a facts sheet for its $2 trillion infrastructure plan, the “American Jobs Plan.” Biden has proposed investing $100 billion in broadband, aiming for 100 percent high-speed internet coverage nationwide with a particular focus on supporting networks affiliated with local governments, non-profits, and co-operatives. A portion of the funds will also be set aside for broadband infrastructure on Tribal lands. The plan especially highlights job creation – particularly good-paying jobs with the right to organize and collectively bargain. The Administration also wants to promote price transparency and competition for internet providers, as well as work with Congress to lower prices for internet access.
The American Jobs Plan also includes the creation of the $5 billion Rural Partnership Program to invest in and support rural communities. The plan also directs funds to roadways and transportation infrastructure nationwide, clean energy, clean drinking water, job creation initiatives, and tax reform.
