The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC or Commission) Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau (CGB or Bureau) announced that, beginning July 27, 2020, voice service providers are required to maintain records of the most recent date each number is permanently disconnected. Small business voice service providers will have until January 27, 2021 to comply with the new rules. Voice service providers must also age these telephone numbers for at least 45 days after disconnection and before reassignment. This follows the Commission’s announcement, on June 26, 2020, of the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) approval and compliance dates for the new rules set out in the Reassigned Numbers Database Order, released on December 13, 2018. Once the database is established, the FCC will announce the compliance date for voice providers to send their records information to the Reassigned Numbers Database.
