The FCC has issued a Public Notice announcing authorization for 1,031 Connect American Fund (CAF) Phase II winning bids amounting to nearly $112.2 million for rural broadband deployment. This funding will expand broadband to nearly 48,000 unserved rural homes and businesses in nine states, including California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin. Summaries of CAF Phase II awards can be found on the FCC’s website, and additional rounds of funding will be authorized in the coming months. Later this year, the FCC will look to start implementing the $20.4 billion Rural Digital Opportunity Fund to further expand broadband in unserved rural areas at 25/3 Mbps speeds.
