Representative Matt Salmon has re-introduced a bill to amend the Electronic Communications Privacy Act. The Electronic Communications Privacy Act Amendments Act of 2015 (H.R. 283) would require government entities to have a warrant or court order to access electronic communications. Salmon first introduced the Electronic Communications Privacy Act Amendments Act of 2013 during the 113th Congress. A Senate companion bill received support from nearly 100 tech groups and was favorably reported by the Senate Judiciary Committee on a voice vote in April 2013, but Salmon’s bill did not see action by the full House of Representatives.
