In February 2014, Intrado, Inc., filed a Motion for Clarification or, in the alternative, Petition for Partial Reconsideration of the FCC’s December 2013 Report and Order that adopted new certification and reporting requirements intended to improve the reliability and resiliency of the nation’s 911 communications networks. The new rules require “Covered 911 Service Providers” to “take reasonable measures to provide reliable 911 service with respect to circuit diversity, central-office backup power, and diverse network monitoring.” In its petition, Intrado requests that the FCC clarify that providers may take reasonable alternative measures to meet the FCC’s standards in lieu of implementing any of the best practices adopted in the Report and Order. Oppositions to Intrado’s petition must be filed on or before March 27, 2014. Replies to an opposition must be filed on or before April 7, 2014.
