The FCC has announced a December 12, 2024 effective date for its rules mandating that commercial mobile radio service providers implement a georouting solution for all 988 calls. Thus, nationwide CMRS providers will be required to comply with the rules by January 13, 2024, 30 days after the effective date, and non-nationwide CMRS providers will be required to comply with the rules by December 14, 2026, 24 months after the effective date.
Additionally, the comment and reply comment deadlines have been set for the FCC’s Third Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comment on whether to require CMRS providers to implement georouting for all 988 texts. Comments are due December 20, 2024, and reply comments are due January 9, 2025.
