The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, which covers Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, has ruled that the provision in the Stored Communications Act that allows law enforcement to obtain cell site location information from carriers without a warrant is unconstitutional. Carriers operating within the jurisdiction of the 11th Circuit must require law enforcement to present a warrant before disclosing cell site location information.
