The Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS) has fined T-Mobile $60 million, the largest penalty CIFUS has issued, for alleged national security failures between August 2020 and June 2021. CFIUS alleges that T-Mobile failed to prevent the unauthorized access of certain sensitive data and promptly report such incidents.  These failures delayed CFIUS’ efforts to investigate and mitigate potential harm.  The penalty stems from T-Mobile’s breach of a 2018 national security agreement T-Mobile entered into with CFIUS as part of its merger with Sprint.
