In a Public Notice, the FCC has announced that certain rules adopted in its NG911 Report and Order, adopted in July 2024, requiring originating service providers to implement NG911 capabilities on their networks and deliver 911 calls to NG911 systems will be effective as of November 25, 2024.  This includes the technical NG911 transition rules, NG911 implementation deadlines, and rules related to the designation of NG911 delivery points and cost responsibilities.  Rules concerning the requirements for a valid Phase I request and the criteria for modifying NG911 requirements by mutual agreement will be effective upon announcement of a subsequent Federal Register publication.

The Commission hopes that these rules will expedite the nationwide transition to NG911 leading to faster call delivery and improved service reliability.
