Congressman Peter Welch (D-VT) has introduced the Lifeline Mobile Device Assistance Act (H.R. 5906) in the House of Representatives. H.R. 5906 would direct the Federal Communications Commission to adopt rules and conduct outreach to offer Lifeline recipients mobile devices that are capable of receiving a Wi-Fi signal and are capable of tethering with other Wi-Fi compatible hardware or devices. H.R. 5906 has been referred to the House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce for consideration.
