Representative Austin Scott (R-GA) has introduced legislation (H.R. 5376) to “prohibit universal service support of commercial mobile service and commercial mobile data service through the Lifeline program.” If passed, the bill would prevent mobile wireless service providers from receiving reimbursements from the universal service fund for providing Lifeline service. Representative Scott’s bill has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
