The FCC has adopted an emergency Order to provide immediate Universal Service Fund (USF) relief to schools and libraries in areas of Texas, Florida, and Georgia, and throughout Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, which were impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and/or Maria. The FCC adopts temporary rules that target support to schools and libraries that are rebuilding facilities and replacing equipment due to hurricane damage and provide flexibility for eligible services to allow more service substitutions. The Order also provides additional E-rate support to schools that are incurring added costs for eligible services (e.g., more bandwidth demand to accommodate displaced students). Due to the exigent circumstances, the FCC grants this temporary relief without notice and comment and with immediate effect.
