The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau has entered into a Consent Decree with Frontier Communications Parent, Inc. to resolve the Bureau’s investigation into whether Frontier violated FCC rules by failing to transmit 911 calls. Following vandalism to Frontier’s network in June 2022, the service provider was unable to transmit 911 calls to 911 emergency call centers for more than one hour. While Frontier had rerouted traffic while it repaired the damaged fiber, it mistakenly used telephone numbers for the reroute that were impacted by the repair. The Bureau began an investigation of the incident, which Frontier timely responded to, and shortly after began settlement negotiations whereby the Bureau and Frontier entered into a Consent Decree. Frontier has agreed to pay a $24,000 civil penalty and implement a three-year compliance plan to ensure compliance and improve upon network maintenance and operating procedures.
