The FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau is seeking comment on whether issuing a waiver that would forestall the exhaustion of area codes 207 and 701 (located in Maine and North Dakota, respectively) would serve the public interest.  The FCC anticipates that issuing this waiver would provide the Commission ample time to evaluate petitions filed by the Maine Public Utilities Commission (Maine PUC) and the North Dakota Public Service Commission (North Dakota PSC) because the waiver would slow number utilization in these areas.

Additionally, the FCC is considering trials of individual telephone number (ITN) pooling proposed by the North Dakota PSC and the Maine PUC by instructing the North American Numbering Council to evaluate the feasibility of such trials.
