The FCC has released a public notice seeking information and data on the state of competition in the fixed broadband marketplace. This latest release is part of the FCC’s re-vamped effort to gauge marketplace competition across multiple sectors, but have the results of those inquiries released in a unified report. The Commission has already solicited comment in the mobile wireless marketplace earlier this year. Once the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 became law on March 23, 2018, it obligated the FCC to publish a “Communications Marketplace Report” in the last quarter of every even numbered year. The Communications Marketplace Report is required to include the same information that was previously included in the industry-specific reports. This public notice requests comment on the criteria or metrics that should be used to evaluate the state of fixed broadband competition. Also requested is information on industry data, competitive dynamics, and trending factors in the industry, including subscribership numbers, financial indicators, investment, pricing, and network coverage. Comments are due on or before Friday, August 17, 2018.
