The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau has sent a cease and desist letter to Lingo Telecom, LLC (Lingo) regarding significant apparently unlawful robocalls that it originated or transmitted. Specifically, Lingo apparently originated unlawful spoofed robocalls carrying deepfake prerecorded messages in a voice that was artificially created to sound like President Biden. The letter orders Lingo to: (1) expeditiously investigate the traffic identified in the letter; (2) block or cease accepting the identified traffic and substantially similar traffic on an ongoing basis; and (3) report the results of the investigation to the Enforcement Bureau within 14 days of the date of the letter.
The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau has also issued a Public Notice notifying all U.S.-based voice service providers that if Lingo fails to effectively mitigate illegal traffic, within 48 hours of the date of the Public Notice, U.S.-based voice service providers may block voice calls or cease to accept traffic from Lingo.
