The Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) has adopted an Order that grants a one-time waiver to certain Lifeline subscribers allowing them to recertify their eligibility for the Lifeline program within 90 days, as opposed to 60 days, as described in their notification letters from the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC). Commission rules only allow for a 60-day deadline to recertify Lifeline eligibility, but due to a USAC system error some subscribers were misled into believing they had 90 days to recertify. The Commission found there was good cause for granting this waiver as the cause was beyond subscribers’ control. Moreover, this waiver only applies to subscribers that received the incorrect deadline information.
