The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (PSHSB) has granted a waiver of FCC rules to permit Participating Commercial Mobile Service (CMS) Providers to participate in a planned Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) test initiative that will evaluate the geographic accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of these emergency alerts.  PSHSB’s 2022 WEA Performance Exercise Partners, comprising 42 state and local government agencies, may disseminate WEA test messages using the Public Safety Message alert category.  Messages will be sent to all members of the public in designated geographic areas and in accordance with assigned test schedules.  WEA tests are planned on September 12 and 13.
