The FCC has deactivated the Disaster Information Reporting System obligations in Florida and Virginia and certain areas in Georgia and Tennessee with respect to Hurricane Helene. DIRS is a voluntary, web-based system that communications providers use to report communications infrastructure status and situational awareness information during times of crisis. In areas where DIRS has been deactivated, the Network Outage Reporting System reporting obligations are in effect for any new network outages in those areas. You can find a list of counties where DIRS has been deactivated here.
Additionally, the FCC has noted that DIRS deactivation does not release wireless providers from their responsibility to comply with the FCC’s MDRI obligations, which include providing roaming to other facilities-based mobile wireless providers under disaster arrangements.
