In a request consistent with the FCC’s recent action in the 3.7-4.2 GHz band, CTIA has asked the FCC to freeze applications in the 3500-3550 MHz band in order to “preserve the current landscape of authorized operations” and “prevent any future commercial encumbrances” as the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) studies the 3450-3550 MHz band for potential wireless broadband use. There are several commercial weather radar systems licensed in the 3500-3550 MHz band, as well as military radar systems. NTIA announced in February 2018 that it would conduct a feasibility study on repurposing the 3450-3550 MHz band for commercial wireless services.
