FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has announced two senior staff appointments:
Dr. Timothy Brennan, Chief Economist- Currently a University of Maryland Baltimore County public policy and economics professor, Brennan will serve as the agency’s Chief Economist. Professor Brennan’s research has addressed topics in antitrust, regulatory economics, copyright, electricity markets, telecommunications and media policy, environmental economics, and methods and ethics in public policy. In addition to teaching, Professor Brennan is also currently a senior fellow with Resources for the Future. He previously held the T. D. MacDonald Chair in Industrial Economics at the Canadian Competition Bureau, and has served as a staff consultant at the Federal Trade Commission, a senior economist for the White House Council of Economic Advisers, and an economist with the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Clete Johnson, Chief Counsel for Cybersecurity- Mr. Johnson will join the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau as Chief Counsel for Cybersecurity. He joins the FCC from the Senate Intelligence Committee where he served as the Committee’s designated counsel, and was lead staffer on the Chairman’s cybersecurity legislation and financial intelligence issues. Before working in the Senate, Mr. Johnson practiced law at Patton Boggs LLP, where he focused on export controls and defense procurement, as well as other aspects of international trade and security.
