President Biden has signed the 5G Spectrum Authority Licensing Enforcement (5G SALE) Act (S. 2787). Passed by the House last week, this measure gives the FCC the authority for 90 days to issue licenses that T-Mobile and other winning bidders bought in the 2.5 GHz band auction last year (Auction 108). T-Mobile paid $340 million for more than 7,000 2.5 GHz licenses that it won in Auction 108. Congress passed this measure as a stopgap after months of negotiations on a broader legislative package that would have renewed the FCC’s general auction authority, which expired on March 9, 2023.
