The FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau has released a Public Notice seeking comment on its granted STIR/SHAKEN implementation extensions for small voice service providers that originate calls via satellite using North American Numbering Plan numbers and voice providers that cannot obtain a Service Provider Code token.  The FCC is required annually to reevaluate its STIR/SHAKEN implementation extensions granted on the basis of undue hardship.

The aforementioned small voice service providers were granted an indefinite extension of the STIR/SHAKEN implementation given that satellite service costs make the high-volume calling, necessary for robocallers, uneconomical.  Voice providers not able to obtain an SPC token, due to Governance Authority policy, were granted an implementation extension until they are capable of obtaining a token.  Comments on these implementation extensions are due October 21, 2024 and reply comments are due November 5, 2024.
