In April, the FCC adopted a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking proposing a framework that would require georouting by wireless carriers of calls to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The Commission seeks comment on georouting options and their viability, whether existing FCC rules would need amending, and the hurdles for georouting texts to 988. The FNPRM’s publication in the Federal Register establishes a comment cycle in which comments are due by June 28 and reply comments by July 29.
